We are pleased to announce that we have successfully partnered with Bicom Systems and ICON Voice Networks. Bicom Systems has successfully connected to our systems, while ICON Voice Networks has completed interoperability tests with the Iwatsu Enterprise-CS IP-PBX.

Customers of Bicom Systems and ICON Voice Networks can rest assured knowing that the services they use are compatible with our services. Therefore, it’s important to make these strategic partnerships and conduct interoperability test to ensure everything is copacetic.

“This compatibility is reflected in the ease of configuration of VoIP Innovations in the Bicom Systems switch. In this case, configuration was straightforward and quick,” said Saulio Reyes of Bicom Systems. ICON Voice Networks is the exclusive master distributor for the Iwatsu Enterprise-CS IP-PBX in North America and provides development services and technical support for the Iwatsu product. Many of ICON Voice Networks’ authorized dealers have selected VoIP Innovations as their preferred SIP trunk provider and the interoperability testing helps ensure issue-free configuration and reliable service.

Our Technical Services Manager, Randy Stegner, had some things to say on the value of interoperability tests:

“Interoperability testing is prudent because it proactively looks for potential problems between companies. For example, most VoIP providers send out a refresh session update periodically to ensure an active call should remain open. This prevents calls from staying open and thus being billed unnecessarily. The refresh doesn’t change the session in any way but is essentially a keep alive where one side (typically the provider) sends the refresh and the other side (typically the wholesale customer) responds with a SIP 200 OK and keeps the call open. Failure to respond to the refresh request would result in the provider ending the call. Again, the purpose of the refresh is to keep the call alive and failure to respond is an indication that the call should be ended.

We sends out a refresh request every 30 minutes and it was determined during the interoperability tests, the Iwatsu switch responds fine to the first request but not subsequent requests occurring 30 minutes thereafter. VoIP Innovations is able to institute a work-around for Iwatsu customers to overcome this compatibility issue. This is documented in the information that Iwatsu provides its customers who choose VoIP Innovations as their provider. All an Iwatsu user needs to do is advise our support staff they are using the Iwatsu switch and request the work-around be implemented. Interoperability testing between Iwatsu and VoIP Innovations identified this issue prior to any customers being affected by it and can thus say with confidence that the two are compatible.”
